Four hours.
Out of 720 hours in a month.

Do you really think 0.55% of your son’s month is going to move the needle enough to separate him from every other player trying to play college baseball?
It’s not.
And the bigger problem isn’t even the money.
It’s the dependency.
Private lessons create a dynamic where your son always needs someone there to do the work.
A coach to flip to him. Someone to watch every swing and tell him good job or bad job.
But when he steps into the batter’s box in a real game nobody is standing there with him.
When he’s on the mound nobody is whispering in his ear.
The players who develop fastest are the ones who learn to do the work by themselves. Cage sessions at midnight.
Wall ball alone in the driveway. Sprinting programs done before anyone else is awake.
That’s not punishment. That’s how you become your own best coach.
Speaking from experience when I was at NC State studying aerospace engineering while playing D1 baseball in the ACC I wasn’t spending my Friday nights at parties.
I was in the cage at 11pm because we had 24/7 access and I wasn’t going to waste it.
Nobody forced me to do that. That’s the internal drive that separates players.
The burnout conversation.
Here’s something I want to address directly.
If your son is getting burnt out from baseball he might not have the passion for the game that you think he does.
The players I played with in professional baseball guys competing at one of the highest levels in the world never talked about burnout.
Because they genuinely loved what they were doing.
Baseball is the greatest game in the world. If it feels like a burden something needs to change before the recruiting conversation even matters.

Four hours of private lessons a month is not a development plan.
Your son needs structure, volume, and the ability to do the work when nobody is watching.
That’s what actually creates the separation.
