If you’ve been following along, you know I talk a lot about visibility.
But today I want to get specific.
Because visibility without a system is just noise.
Here’s the exact framework we use to get college coaches to actually notice your son.
It starts with volume you control
Everything in recruiting comes back to what you can control.
You can’t control whether a coach shows up to your son’s game. You can’t control whether a scout has you on their radar. But you can control how many emails go out, to whom, and when.
That’s where this system starts.
The four stages of a recruiting email
Every email your son sends to a college coach goes through four stages. Sent. Opened. Clicked. Responded.
Most families never think past the send.
Here’s what we track at each stage and why it matters.
Opens happen when a coach sees your subject line and decides it’s worth reading. With the right subject line we typically see around an 80% open rate. That’s not luck. That’s craft.
Clicks happen when a coach engages with something inside the email…a highlight video, a profile link, measurables. Around 60% of coaches who open will click if the email is clean and the highlight is short. Label your video. Tell the coach exactly what he’s about to watch. A 30 second highlight beats a 15 minute game film every single time.
Responses are harder. Usually somewhere between 2 and 8% depending on the player, the graduation year, and the timing. But a response isn’t the only win here. Which brings us to the most important part.
The retargeting list
Every coach who opens or clicks goes onto what we call a retargeting list.
You’ve seen how this works if you’ve ever searched for something online and then seen ads for it everywhere. That’s retargeting. The algorithm knows you’re warm and keeps showing you relevant content.
College coaches work the same way.
A coach who opened your son’s email in June is a warmer conversation in August than a coach who’s never heard his name. So we keep hitting that list. We stay in front of the right coaches through the summer circuit, through fall ball, into the spring.
Consistency builds familiarity. Familiarity builds opportunity.
The takeaway
Recruiting stops feeling random when you have a system behind it.
Send. Track. Retarget. Repeat.
That’s the process.
