3 Recruiting Mistakes That Get Players Overlooked
Every year, talented players get passed over…not because they lack ability, but because they make a few critical recruiting mistakes.
After playing 7 years of professional baseball and helping hundreds of players navigate recruiting, these are the three biggest mistakes I see:
1. You’re Not Visible
Talent doesn’t matter if coaches never see it.
Consistent emails, social media, and updated metrics (60-yard dash, exit velocity, arm velocity) help coaches find and evaluate you.
2. You’re Relying on Others to Handle Recruiting
Travel ball and high school coaches can help, but they can’t manage the process for every player.
The players who create the most opportunities take ownership of their recruiting.
3. You’re Not Telling Your Story
Don’t focus on creating content.
Focus on documenting your journey.
Show your training, development, and progress over time. Coaches want to see who you are…not just one highlight clip.
Bonus Tip: Keep your highlight video around 30 seconds, lead with your best clip, and make every second count.
The reality is simple:
The players getting recruited aren’t always the most talented.
They’re often the most visible.
