If I could go back to my sophomore or junior year of high school, I’d focus on three things.
First, physical development.
Most players spend plenty of time hitting, throwing, and fielding, but neglect getting bigger, stronger, and faster.
The players who continue developing physically throughout the season are often the ones who separate themselves from the competition.
Second, mental development.
Baseball IQ matters. Understanding the game, managing your time, and learning how to think one step ahead can make a huge difference as you move up levels.
Third, the recruiting process.
This is the biggest mistake I made. I waited too long and assumed coaches would help handle everything.
The reality is that recruiting rewards players who take ownership, communicate with coaches, and stay proactive.
If your goal is to play college baseball, don’t wait until it’s urgent to start taking action.
Focus on developing your body, your mind, and your recruiting strategy.
Those three areas will create more opportunities than you realize.
